Carpenter Basket Repair

Before…

This welding repair project was quite the little challenge! Carpenters use baskets like this for lifting people up to roof level to work on roofing, and this one was very well loved (and this one actually no longer is used for people…only scrap.) As you can see, the old skid boxes were bent up and scabbed together from years of use, so step one was to remove the old material.

Step 2…

Next, I had to lay down a strong base, welding in fresh steel, working around existing bends and warps in the cage, and providing a strong and flat base for the new box steel.

Step 3…

Next it was time to weld in the new box steel - a little creativity was required to make sure the new steel was flat and level to the ground, and with strong welds that will last for years to come.

That’s a wrap…

With all said and done, the last step was to scab the new steel into existing reinforcement, plus adding in some of my own. The result was a strong, level, and heavily reinforced basket, ready to take more years of use!
