Stainless Steel - Backlit Brewery Sign

So the story goes, my wife and I were living in Duluth - beautiful west Duluth; underrated and often overlooked. In west Duluth, there is a wonderful barbecue restaurant called OMC. At OMC, mid pandemic, just after the COVID shut down in Minnesota ended, my wife and I happened to be sitting (socially distanced) next to the head brewer for Alloy Brewing Company down in Coon Rapids. Well, of course there was a great deal to talk about with him, from barbecue to beer to life’s passions. I shared that my passion was for metalwork and applying my creativity and artistry in steel. The head brewer’s name was (and is) Robert, and Robert mentioned that his taproom was in possession of a large expanse of empty wall that all-but begged for a sign.

That’s where the story began, and as of yesterday, after a year of stumbling through the COVID blues, fabrication on their new taproom sign was finally complete, and it was installed. This stainless steel, LED backlit sign is one of the cleanest pieces of metalwork to ever come out of Somnus Customs’ shop, and it was a delight to get to make it. If you’re ever up in Coon Rapids, just north of the twin cities, make sure to stop in, take a gander, and have a pint.
