Custom Aluminum Sign - Stillwater Minnesota

Launching a business comes with a huge amount novelty, which is exciting at first, but after a while, the novelty starts to become sort of deafening, and a simple routine project is a rare treat of calm. Well that’s what we have here - a rare treat of a calm project that I was able to make tight and clean.

An amazing little event venue in Stillwater Minnesota has been keeping me very busy. I created some custom welded and LED lit bar shelves for them, as well as a rad little backlit stainless steel, LED backlit, stainless steel sign. All of these had their own elements of challenge and novelty, so this beautifully simple aluminum sign was a great capstone to the canon of work I’ve completed for them so far!

Of course, step one in any custom metal signage is a cutting file that a CNC laser can work with.

This logo is a sleek and clean modern design that I’ve captured before, in a small 3x3’ sign. This one was double that footprint, and was apt to be heavy if cut from steel, so I elected for 1/4” thick aluminum material, which won’t rust or heavily tarnish over time. Stainless steel offers the same benefit, but is far heavier, and heavier is definitely NOT better when mounted to a 100+ year old brick building.

And here we already are, at the end of the tale…about a dozen holes with a hammer drill, and a couple of hours spent poised at the top of a ladder later, and the sign is installed, cleaned, and looking gorgeous as a splash of modern against a vintage backdrop. I, and my client, could not have been more pleased with the finished result on this modern aluminum sign.
